Some of the awesome people in our lives and in our day!
Both of us
Jennifer
Jennifer grew up on the windy prairie in Wyoming and loves the endless blue skies of her home state. After graduating from Campbell County High School, Jennifer went on to study at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before beginning her winding journey as a communicator, volunteer, English teacher and educator. She has called many places her home along the way -- from the city of New York to the green mountains of Stara Tura, Slovaka to the vibrance of Guadalajara, Mexico to the calming seaside of Monterey, California to the rugged beauty of Craiova and Brasov, Romania to the forests of Tartu, Estonia and finally to the U.S. capital. Jennifer holds a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and she currently teaches English as a Foreign Language at Georgetown University and lives in Washington, D.C. In her free time, she delights in attending local cultural events, cycling, dancing, reading, music, and being outside in the sun whenever she can!
Ulrich
Ulrich spent much of his life in the historical and verdant city of Aachen in the western part of Germany. After finishing high school at Inda-Gymnasium Kornelimünster, Ulrich went on to study for his diploma in Computer Science at RWTH Aachen University. After taking a break from school to start his own tech support company, he returned to academic life and earned his PhD in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen University. During his final year and following his studies, Ulrich moved to the university town of Tartu in Estonia where he has held a position as a post-doctoral researcher and lecture for the last three years. Currently, he takes delight and keeps very busy in supervising numerous students, teaching some classes, and reinventing the Internet. Ulrich loves cycling, choral singing, dancing, being outdoors, and reading fantasy novels when he gets the chance.
Our Families
Shirley and Terry
parents of the bride
Jennifer's parents are Shirley and Terry Uhler. Shirley is a native Wyomingite from Casper, Wyoming, and Terry comes from a farming community outside of Reeder, North Dakota. They've been married for 35 years and have called Gillette their home for the last 30. Shirley and Terry have been local business owners since coming to Gillette and currently run a motorcycle and powersports dealership, Thunder Basin Motorsports. They are a fun-loving and awesome parents and an inspiring marriage model for the bride and groom. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
Uschi and Walter
parents of the groom
Ulrich's parents are Uschi and Walter, and they are both natives of Aachen, Germany. They've been married for 36 years. Both are dedicated, life-long educators in the area. Uschi is the principal of an elementary school in Eschweiler, and Walter is a middle school principal in Düren. They love singing good music and enjoying good wine and food and have passed this zeal for music and life onto both of their sons, Ulrich and Hendrik.
The Wedding Party
Hendrik
best man
The brother of the groom is Hendrik. Joyful and witty with the Norbisrathian love for good food and wine he did not only enlighten the groom's life before Uli met Jenn, but will definitely be also a good spirit at the wedding.
Julie
maid of honor
The maid of honor has been a partner in crime with Jennifer since they met working at Lutheran World Relief in Manhattan (that's New York not Kansas!). Now living and working in Baltimore, MD, Julie has had the chance to include the couple in their adventures -- a first baseball game for Uli - Go Bowie Baysocks!, a famous episode with an injured car and duct tape, and some competitive Settlers games. We're honored to have her as part of our wedding!
Melissa
pastor
We have the honor of including a good friend as the officiant of our wedding. Melissa and Jenn went to Augustana College together in Sioux Falls and spend some memorable summers hiking, singing camp songs, and counseling at Outlaw Ranch in the Black Hills. Melissa and her husband, Eric, (pictured right) will be venturing out West for the wedding from her home congregation at Trinity Lutheran in Cook, Minnesota.
Other VIPs
Joe
brother of the bride
The brother of the bride is Joseph Uhler. In addition to being the most pesky and lovable little brother you can imagine, Joe is also a talented motorcycle guru and a partner in the family business at Thunder Basin Motorsports. He has a dry yet funny sense of humor that can make you laugh until your sides split, and he gives the hugest hugs ever. He's a great guy and has a beautiful wife and family who all live in Gillette, Wyoming.
Priit & Tom
photographer and assistant
These two snap-happy guys were good friends of ours when we were both in Estonia. Priit is one of Ulrich's former students in Germany and is largely responsible for Uli's relocation to the University of Tartu. He'll be present at the wedding along with his sidekick Tom, who also lived temporarily in Tartu but is now based out of London.
Tiny
dj extraordinaire
Tiny, a friend and local who knows all about the kinds of music folks like to hear, will be in charge of keeping us dancing and having a good time throughout the Polterabend and wedding festivities!
